Formed in 1988, the School of Media and Communication is one of the top departments in the country for the study of communication, media and culture. Our teaching and research spans a wide range of communication subjects, from popular culture to political communication, journalism studies to digital media. We offer undergraduate degrees, postgraduate taught degrees and postgraduate research programmes that emphasise choice and opportunity, allowing you to tailor your degree to your own strengths and interests.

Our reputation reflects the excellence of our students and staff. We attract bright and driven students – ensuring that you’ll study alongside equally high-achieving peers. Teaching, supervision and support are provided by a combination of media and communication researchers who write the books and articles read by students around the world and industry practitioners with links to major media companies.

We have one of the highest employment rates of graduates in the subject area. Many of our graduates hold key roles in the media industries or related fields.

At the heart of the Leeds campus, the School is based in a specially refurbished state-of-the-art building. Our exceptional facilities include a range of flexible teaching spaces, a purpose-built cinema, a new media lab, radio and television studios, and creative media suites.
