背景

Young Chinese Institute of Engineers (Young CIE) [1]is the student chapter of the Chinese Institute of Engineers/USA San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. While actively participating in many career professional development events, board members of CIE-SF Bay Area Chapter have noticed that university students and recent college graduates are often faced with multiple challenges that may lead to different opportunities.

In January of 2011, CIE-SF Bay Area Chapter launched a new program called Young CIE. It is unlike many professional development programs that target junior level professionals. The new program will collaborate closely with university student associations and provide mentorship opportunities for students and recent college graduates, allowing them to get coaching and practical advice from working professionals and industry leaders.

Young Chinese Institute of Engineers (Young CIE) is a student-led organization to provide young talents a bridge to technology industry. Young CIE strives to build effective mentor relationship between students and established industry leaders and encourage career exploration.

The mission of Young CIE is to work alongside students to translate study in academia into practical application in professional world and to develop well-rounded future leaders at the University of California, Berkeley.

Specifically, the Young CIE focus on the following areas to help emerging talents:

- Link students with industry mentors:

- Build lasting relationships in a small group setting;

- Obtain career development insights in large group activities;

- Get advice for starting or expanding careers;

- Gain support and inspiration from peers in a diverse community;

- Broaden network in assorted fields.

美洲中国工程师协会

美洲中国工程师协会[2]是一个科学与教育组织，是为建立和完善工程设施和技术能力，改善中国人民的生活水平，早期会员：詹天佑、颜德庆、徐文涓、吴健、凌鸿勋、陈体诚、张贻志、吴承洛、侯德榜、周琦等。1905年以前，中国尚无自己的工程师，所有的重大工程项目均由外国人承担。1905年，第一个由中国工程师主持设计的工程项目，是由留美学童詹天佑负责的京张铁路（从北京至张家口）。意识到工程师对现代中国的重要性，越来越多的学生被派遣到国外学习科学与工程技术。1917年，由一群有能力、有远见，致力于创造的中国工程师成立了美洲中国工程师协会
