该地是国家南部交通枢纽，铁路向东通往莫桑比克的贝拉港，向南连接津巴布韦的首都哈拉雷，向北通达马拉维湖畔的水陆联运港萨利马，公路通首都利隆圭和国内其他城镇，有国际航空站。1
