melina marchetta
Melina Marchetta (born 25 March 1965) is an Australian writer and teacher. Melina is best known as the author of novels, Looking for Alibrandi, Saving Francesca and On the Jellicoe Road. She has twice been awarded the CBCA Children's Book of the Year Award: Older Readers, in 1993 and 2004. For Jellicoe Road she won the 2009 Michael L. Printz Award from the American Library Association, recognising the year's best book for young adults.[1] Marchetta holds a name for being one of the more prominent Australian Authors of present time in Young-Adult Fiction.

Summaries form chapt 2~?:We meet josie's group of school friends. there is Anna, Sera, whose full name is Seraphina Italian, and Lee. We are also introduced to Lvy Lloyd, whom Josie calls 'Posison Ivy'. There is a constant academic rivalry and also personal dislike between Ivy and Josie. The girls attend 'Have a Say Day' in Martin Place. They go in Angelo Pezzini's car and arrive late. Josie is asked by Sister Louise to give the speech for her and her friends with rotten fruit. We learn that Joie is Vice-Captain of St Martha's and Jacob Coote is Captain of Cook High. Josie talks about sex education. Jacob speaks on freedom of speech and the right to vote. Jacob's speech is passionate ad honest and intelligent, surprising Josie.
Josie reluctantly visits Nonna. She thinks about the family and Italian community's reaction to her birth. The community were told that no-one knew who her father was, and her mother was estranged from her family until after her father died. Josie argues with her grandmother, finally accusing her of being a hopeless mother to Christina. She knows she has gone too far. The door bell rings. It is Michael Andretti. Josie is surprised at his appearance. He realizes she is his daughter, and is shocked by the encounter. She snubs him and goes off. Nonna phones Christina to tell her about Josephine's bad behavior and to accuse Christina of not being a good mother.
Josie is part of debating team against St Anthony's. John Barton is a member of the St Anthony's team. He is good looking and popular, and she describes him as the 'love of my life', though he is socially more suited to Ivy's world. They talk about josie's ambition to become a barrister and make her own path in life, while John feels unable to escape his family's tradition of law and politics. He is depressed and bitter about having his life mapped out for him. John is forced into going to a party with Ivy because the girl's father one of his father's political backers. He arranges to see Macbeth with josie. Josie gets an after-school job at McDonalds.
