Nightwish

Nightwish（夜愿，台湾译名“日暮颂歌”）是一支成立于1996年来自芬兰的剧院金属（美声金属）乐队。乐队大多数歌曲的词由键盘手托马斯·霍洛帕尼所撰写，前任女主唱塔雅·图仑尼的声音使得夜愿扬名国际。在2005年10月塔雅·图伦尼被开除后，他们找到了Anette接任，并且也增加了贝斯手马可·希耶塔拉的声部。夜愿的音乐风格除了剧院金属和新金属，还有其他音乐元素。托马斯曾经形容他们的音乐为“用女声表现的旋律金属”。2012年10月，乐队主唱Anette Olzon宣布离队，前After Forever主唱Floor Jansen成为乐队的代理主唱。

创作背景

在乐队前主唱Tarja Turunen离队后，Nightwish公开招募新主唱，最后来自瑞典古典摇滚乐队艾莉森大道的前主唱Anette Olzon成为了乐队的一员。乐队键盘手Tuomas Holopainen在接受记者采访时表示他们对Anette演唱的来自《Century Child》专辑的《Ever Dream》有很深的印象，这也是他们作出将Anette作为乐队新主唱的原因之一。

专辑的录音工作于2006春季在欧洲各地不同的工作室开始，据说制作《Dark Passion Play》总共花费了超过500,000欧元，这种制作成本是Nightwish之前的专辑《Once》的两倍，也是芬兰历史上最昂贵的专辑。其中大部分花在了在Abbey大道的录音室里与伦敦Session管弦乐团的合作上，另外270,000欧元用于专辑MV的拍摄。

“After the split with Tarja, we started writing without a singer, and it was quite a liberating feeling. We knew the right girl was out there somewhere, so we could just concentrate on the music. It took 10 months in the studio to make, but the atmosphere was so good and liberating there was a lot of bittersweet relief in the air. It was an extremely inspirational time”

“When I think back to it, it was such a crucial point to so many people, we didn't even realise back then but it showed uswhat we would be doing for the next year of our lives. We were never nervous about Anette, or the album being good, but we just couldn't tell how people would take it. Would they like Anette? Would they like the music? That was in the back of our minds all the time. And there was such a huge amount of money involved, over 800.000 euros, that we needed to sell at least a few albums to get going,”

音乐特点

专辑单曲《Erämaan viimeinen》

在这张专辑发行之前，乐队的灵魂人物Thomas Holopainen在接受采访时表示这张专辑与之前的专辑《Once》有很多的共同之处。例如这张专辑中有一些较重的歌曲，比如《Bye bye beautiful》、《7 Days to the wolves》、《Whoever brings the night》和《Master Passion Greed》；另外在专辑中也有柔软的歌谣，比如《Eva》、《The Islander》和《Meadows of Heaven》，同时这张专辑包含了许多管弦乐和客座音乐家们的演奏。

和乐队上一张专辑《Once》一样，乐队在这份专辑里作了许多新的尝试。在专辑《Once》中，许多灵感来自美洲本土音乐，例如《Creek Mary‘s Blood》。而在这张专辑中，很多灵感来自芬兰和爱尔兰的文化和音乐，这些可以在专辑中的《Last of the wilds》清晰地体现到。歌曲如《Master Passion Greed》和《Cadence Of Her Last Breath》可以体现激流金属和另类金属的元素，展现更新的、更现代的乐队的声音。
